There were elementary schools in Brewster, Beach City, and Navarre and after the closing of the Justus middle school, the middle school students were housed in the basement of the high school, until a new middle school and a new elementary school were opened to students and faculty in the fall of 2007. After the new schools were finished, the contents of the old elementaries were auctioned off and the schools were demolished. The high school was built in 1965 on land donated by Mr. Benjamin Fairless. The high school was built to keep up with the growing communities. Before the time of the creation of the Fairless Local School district there were three main high schools, the Navarre Rams, the Beach City Pirates, and the Brewster Railroaders.
The Fairless Athletic Director is Mark Easterling. Fairless offers many athletic activities for its students and has teams competing in football, male and female track and cross country, golf, male and female basketball, wrestling, soccer, volleyball, softball and baseball.
Fairless's head coach for the 2011-2012 football team is Tim Wolf. The Falcons' home stadium is Brideweser Stadium, located in front of the high school.
Fairless's head coach for the 2010-2011 softball team is Kara Witting.
Fairless's head coach for the 2010-2011 soccer team is Rick Smith. Fairless plays their home games in Brideweser Stadium. Although the soccer team is considered a club sport, the team still abides by school policies and the team is still for those at the school.
Cheerleading is an option extracurricular for students. The students tryout and are placed on either the Varsity Squad or the JV Squad. Both squards cheer at home varsity football games, while only the Varsity cheerleaders cheer at away Varsity games. The JV Squad then cheers alone at JV football games. There is also the option to be a cheerleader for the Fairless Basketball teams. Same conditions apply as with football, the only main difference is that JV and Varsity games are back-to-back, therefore allowing them to ride the same bus and face the same opponent, just different grade levels. The tryout process for cheerleading usually takes place in early spring. Then those who place go through vigorous training throughout the summer to be ready for their first game at the start of fall. Tryouts typically consist of the memorization of a dance and 3 cheers. Also, the contestants are given words to another cheer of which they are to make their own motions. There are also mandatory jumps and stunts of which you will be tested upon. The Fairless Cheer coaches of the 10-11 season are Coach Johnson, assisted by Coach Thomas.
Fairless offers a few extracurriculars for its students, such as Band and Cheerleading.
The bands are led with the direction of Phil Lehenbauer and Elizabeth Barkan. The Fairless music program begins in the 5th grade, allowing students to begin their musical career. There they experiment with the instrument they choose and start from there. The band program is continued though 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade leaving each of the grade's bands separated. When reaching high school all the grades merge to form one band.
The Fairless High School Marching Band (FHSMB) is notable throughout Stark County. The band is made up of approximately 120 students . The marching band is an option opportunity for the band students to participate in. The band performs at more than 15 events, including football games and it's annual Ice Cream Social Concert. Annually, the band performs "Script Ohio" as part of the Pregame Show for their homecoming game. The band also performs a "senior show" which is the senior member's last march. The theme of the show varies per year and usually the band members are in a particular costume matching the theme of the show. The band is made up of the following instruments:
The Fairless High School Wind Ensemble (FHSWE) and the Fairless High School Symphonic Band (FHSSB) are the school's featured concert bands. After marching band season ends, the school holds tryouts for band placement and seating. Those placed at a higher level are placed into the Wind Ensemble, which is usually Juniors and Seniors leaving Freshmen and Sophomores in Symphonic Band. The FHSWE has earned superior ratings at multiple events. The FHSSB has earned excellent ratings at multiple events. The band performs in numerous school concerts throughout the school year. For graduation, the bands are created one to perform in the Graduation Ceremony.
The Fairless High School Pep Band (FHSPB) is another optional band to perform in. The band performs at all home boys' basketball games. They also perform at some home girls' basketball games, and has also been seen at some home volleyball games. Their motto is "Loud is Good," which is displayed on the back of the pep band uniform.
The Fairless High School Jazz Band (FHSJB) is another option band to perform in. The band performs two concerts a year, and some Senior Citizen Luncheons. The band consists of Trumpets, Trombones, Alto Saxophones, Tenor Saxophones, Baritone Saxophones, Keyboard, Drum Set, Guitar, and Bass Guitar.
